The join nobody sells off the shelf

Putting a BMW automatic into a Patrol creates one problem that has no factory answer: the back of the gearbox and the front of the transfer case were never meant to meet. There is no bolt pattern in common and no shared input spline. The usual workarounds are to change the transfer case for something the gearbox will accept, or to have a one off housing made by whoever is doing the build.

Both cost you something real. Changing the transfer case throws away the Patrol’s low range and the driveline that was designed around it, and commits you to sourcing propshafts and mounts for whatever replaced it. A one off housing is fine until it needs replacing, at which point the drawings live in one workshop and possibly in one person’s head.

This adapter is the third option: a machined housing and the matching input gear, made repeatably, so the Patrol keeps its own transfer case and low range and the BMW box drives it.

Check the gearbox variant, not the family

The list above names specific variants: 6HP26X, 6HP28X and 8HP70X. It is not a list of gearbox families, and that distinction matters when you are buying a used gearbox described in an advert as a 6HP. Find the identification tag on the gearbox itself and read what it actually says before ordering.

The same applies at the other end. This adapter is listed to the Nissan GU transfer case. If you are not certain which transfer case is in your vehicle, or it has been changed at some point by a previous owner, send us photographs and the numbers on the casing and we will confirm before anything ships.

Two parts, and what they are not

You are buying a housing and an input gear. There is no gearbox, no engine, no engine or gearbox mount, no wiring, no transmission controller and no propshaft in this listing. It is the specific part that solves the specific join, priced accordingly.

That suits two buyers. One is a workshop doing a one off where everything else is already sorted or already in stock. The other is a builder assembling a Patrol conversion in pieces who has the gearbox in hand and needs the back of it solved. If instead you want the whole vehicle side handled in one order, the Nissan Patrol M57 conversion kit already includes a transfer case adapter assembly, so you would not buy this part as well.
