Complete Nissan Patrol M57 Conversion Kit

This kit puts a BMW M57 into a Nissan Patrol Y60 or Y61, with the flywheel and clutch package for manual builds or the torque converter and flexplate assembly for automatics. The transfer case adapter assembly, custom engine mounts, heavy duty mount bushes and gearbox crossmember are all supplied.

The M57 earned its reputation on Patrol conversions for reliability, efficiency and performance. What the kit adds is the mounting, adapter and integration hardware that otherwise has to be sourced or fabricated piece by piece.

The M57 or the OM606 in a Patrol

We sell two ways to repower a Y60 or Y61 and the choice between them is the single most consequential decision a Patrol builder makes. This kit is the electronic one. The M57 arrives with an engine ECU, an engine wiring harness and an electronic throttle pedal, and it behaves like a modern diesel: common rail, managed, diagnosable with a laptop, and capable of driving an automatic gearbox properly.

The OM606 kit is the other answer. That engine comes with a Dieselmeken 8mm mechanical fuel pump and no engine management at all, which some builders want specifically because there is nothing electronic to fail a long way from anywhere.

Neither is the right answer in general. They are right for different projects, and the question that separates them is how you feel about electronics on a vehicle you might be fixing at the side of a track. Decide that first; everything else follows.

Transmission Options

The kit is built around either a manual or an automatic gearbox, and that choice is worth settling before you order.

The manual keeps direct driver engagement and off road control, and it is the simpler and cheaper option to maintain. The automatic gives smooth gear changes, improved towing performance and much less fatigue over long distances.

The transfer case join

The kit includes a transfer case adapter assembly, specified for your build. We also machine a BMW 6HP and 8HP to Nissan Patrol transfer case adapter as a standalone part, listed for 6HP26X, 6HP28X and 8HP70X gearboxes to the Nissan GU transfer case. If you are going automatic with one of those boxes, tell us which one, because the adapter and input gear are matched to the specific gearbox variant rather than to the family.

Either way the Patrol keeps its own transfer case and its low range. The kit adapts to it; it does not replace it.

Two entries in that list are alternatives rather than additions: you get the flywheel and clutch package or the torque converter and flexplate, according to the gearbox. The exhaust is a downpipe, so the system behind it, the propshafts and the transfer case remain yours.

The kit can also be built onto a brand new chassis for + 2500€.

Have five answers ready: Y60 or Y61, the year, which gearbox is in it now, which transfer case is fitted, and whether the build is manual or automatic. If you already own a gearbox, send us the identification tag on it rather than the model name.
